Camp Belica is a Todeslager (extermination camp, literally: "death camp") run by the Nazis in Northern Croatia. It is seen in the game Wolfenstein: The New Order.

Overview[]

Camp Belica is run by Irene Engel and Hans Winkle, which is where all prisoners are either gassed immediately upon arrival or worked to death. The prisoners are used as a form of slave labor resource to produce many of the important substances and items needed to continue on building the Third Reich. The primary substance that the camp produces is known as Über Concrete, a hard building material made out of limestone in the nearby area. Due to the workings of Set Roth, the mixture for the concrete has been tampered with, making it susceptible to mold. The camp is guarded by Herr Faust.

The New Order[]

Camp Belica wasn't seen until Anya Oliwa of the Kreisau Circle discovered that the mixture to produce Über Concrete was being tampered with, meaning that there was someone there that knew its secrets. This led to the discovery of Da'at Yichud member Set Roth, who has been detained there since 1941.

B.J. Blazkowicz infiltrate the camp by disguising himself as a prisoner. There, he is forcibly tattooed and made to produce Über Concrete via mixers. There, he meets the African prisoner Bombate, who gives B.J. the means to find Set. Disguising himself as a prisoner from another block, B.J. manages to meet Set, who insists that he will only help him if he finds a Detronic battery, which he can use to control Herr Faust. B.J. manages to sneak into the camp morgue, where he is captured and tortured by the camp's resident doctor, The Knife. Placed in an incinerator, B.J. escapes and makes a point to kill The Knife. He also attempts to aid an ailing prisoner who had fallen ill with a fever, whose wife asks him to sneak into the infirmary to find medicine. He does so, but alas, he was too late; the ailing prisoner had died before the stolen medicine could be administered. As such, the prisoner’s widow informs B.J. of his fate and asks to be left alone, to which the former obliges. He ultimately manages to steal the Deutronic Battery. However, he is captured by Bubi and Frau Engel, who orders that he, Set and all the other prisoners are to be executed for his crime. B.J. managed to slip the battery to Set, they take control of the robot, wounding Frau Engel in the process. From there, the robot is used to aid in their escape from the prison.

Trivia[]

  • B.J. mumbled to himself that he has heard of other Nazi labor camps. He mentions Auschwitz and Buchenwald. The two camps he mentioned are some of the most infamous Nazi camps during World War II. Though B.J. knowing about Auschwitz makes some sense, as its location and purpose was leaked by the Polish resistance as early as 1940, how B.J. is aware about Buchenwald is less so. It is possible that these two camps became well-known in post-WW2 occupied Poland, and were said to B.J.
  • Following the massive breakout and Engel's subsequent promotion to General and takeover of the Ausmerzer, it is unknown if the camp was shut down or taken over by someone else.
  • Camp Belica is probably based on the infamous "Jasenovac" concentration camp, established and operated by the governing Ustaše regime in the Independent State of Croatia, a puppet state of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy.
  • According to an inmate, the guards appreciate when prisoners speak good German.
  • Non-Christian religious rituals including prayers, mantras, and chanting are heavily discouraged, as Engel only tolerates Catholicism.
  • According to the prisoner Iwe, here is a black market within the camp where inmates can purchase items, such as sausage in exchange for money or other favors.
  • Despite the conditions in the camp, prisoners are required to keep their hair, skin, and nails clean of dirt and soot. Dirty prisoners are "corrected."
