- "It's the break of dawn, July 16th, 1946. everything's gone to shit, the Nazi war machine is advancing at an astonishing rate. We can't catch up. Our tactics are failing, outclassed & outgunned. No one knows why. People are getting desperate. Not me, I'm here to see an old friend and settle an old score, turn this thing around."

Deathshead's Compound is the introduction level in Wolfenstein: The New Order. The time is 1946 and B.J. Blazkowicz is leading the Allied Forces' charge against Deathshead's compound.
Storyline[]
Captain William "B.J" Blazkowicz begins asleep in a transport plane co-pilot seat, Vulture 1. On his dream see himself having a normal family life, but admits thats something he can't have. He's woken up by Fergus Reid, who tells him he's going to go to the bathroom, when a transport next to there's, get's hit by flak and crashes into the side of Vulture 1. The plane got a leak, so tells B.J to clamp the fuel line engine six before the fuel starts burning. And now that they had lost one engine, he also has to drop all the cargo to level out the plane. With both problems solved, they can keep the flight by now, but flaks still damaging the chest and to get things worse, a fleet of German Jets ambushes them. B.J takes control of the frontal turret and defends the planes of the formation, and after shooting down an array of nazi fighters, one of the badly hit jets makes a suicide charge, impacting Vulture One and almost killing B.J in the process.
As B.J regains consciousness, Fergus is able to revive him and gives him a med pack. One of the Allied planes, Condor 9, makes a distress call and requests Fergus to assess the damage of the German fighters to their plane. After they retract the radar and do so, a flak hits the cockpit and they start to go down. Fergus tries to save them reasoning that it's a troop transport. While doing so, Fergus makes contact with Private Probst Wyatt III, a soldier of the U.S 109th Airborne Division and instructs him how to take the wheel and maneuvering it upwards. Afterwards, Fergus and B.J exit their badly damaged plane by jumping to Condor 9. On board, B.J meets Private Prendergast and tries to cheer them up before the deployment.. After B.J makes his way to the cockpit, Fergus instructs him to calm down Wyatt (by slapping him in the face). Afterwards, Fergus contacts OSA High Command to abort the mission, due to the number of casualties they have sustained. But they decline, insisting to Fergus that if their operation does not push through, they will lose Europe and probably the whole war. Fergus then complains of the low visibility, as the plane then crashes into the water.
Captain Blazkowicz is sent out of the cockpick after crashing and while is unconscious in water, recalls the terrible state of the war while Allied soldiers being seen slaughtered as them try to reach the shore. When he finally wakes up, a Panzerhund proceeds to attack him, but fails as he successfully evades by falling through the remains of the crashed plans' cockpit. Inside the plane, he receives a call from Fergus. He and the rest of the unit are trapped in the wreckage of Condor 9 and need help to deal with nazi robo-dogs. Following his instructions, he dives into the water to avoid enemy fire, reaches the tail turret of the plane, encountering the Stomper in the process, and take out the Panzerhunds. Now that they are together, Fergus tells B.J that they're pinned down by the machineguns in some pillboxes, and says they will cover him while runs through the wreckage of another crashed plane. After destroying the MG nest, proceeds to wipe out the trenches. As Fergus and the unit climb the cliff to the compound, B.J is ordered to take out the flak guns stationed inside the cliff bunker. On his way to the top, has the chance to take out the Stomper with one of the flaks. And when he it comes out, gets ambushed by another Panzerhund, but then Wyatt comes in and takes it out using and grenade and telling it to "fetch". He then helps B.J up and they go to Fergus near the compound wall.
Fergus starts to tell them the plan when Private Gates arrives, barely dodging several rounds. B.J, Gates and Benson would go to scale the wall and open the gate from the inside, then Fergus, Wyatt and their troops would get in to meet up and kill Deathshead. While they were climbing the wall, Benson gets shot on the neck and another troop transport crashes on the top. Gates reaches the control room first, but a nazi shoots him shortly after, to which he shot back and both died. B.J was the only one in, to which he opens the gate. He then sneaks and fights through the compound until meets up with his unit, who are in an enormous firefight. After helping them with an MG turret, surviving members continue on through the crashed plane. They are heading to the big tower of the compound, but first must jump a gorge one at a time. When B.J does, the floor falls apart and everyone is knocked unconscious.
They wake up a short time in some kind of incinerator room with a bunch of dissected people. At this point just 5 members still alive: Blazko, Fergus, Wyatt, Blondie and Prendergast, who got his legs broken. When trying to open any door, Wyatt accidentally turned on the incinerator. They try to get right side door open and find a keyhole. B.J searches through the drawers, finds the key, and opens it. He then grabs "Broken Feet" and they barely get out, with Fergus almost being caught on fire. They see pods on the floor and one of them, Blondie, goes to investigate it, only to have a Supersoldat break out and crush his head. They eventually kill it and explodes. Wyatt hears someone coming, which turns out to be Deathshead, and he makes the walls close in on them. The compression knocks them unconscious, and they get captured.
They're handcuffed and held down by fraken-nazis, and Deathshead recognizes B.J. He then is interested on its team. Specifically Wyatt's and Fergus' blue eyes, and asks B.J to choose which one he has him dissect. Whichever one he picks, he then does so in front of B.J. Afterwards, he has one soldier stay, turns on the incinerator and leaves them to die. The survivor then gets up, breaks off a pipe and throws it to B.J. The soldier holds the survivor down and B.J rams the pipe into its back, killing it. Then the survivor and B.J. use the pipes to break the incinerator nozzles, then the survivor gets B.J so handcuffs off, and gets Prendergast while B.J. gets the window grate open. Once they do, they jump out right before the room explodes.

Main objective[]
Deathshead
JULY 16, 1946
We're losing the war. The OSA has sent me on a mission to the Baltic coast of Germany, near the Polish border. A united assault on the stronghold of General Wilhelm Strasse, a.k.a. "Deathshead", the mastermind behind the monstrous Nazi war machine. If we can put a stop to him, we may be able to turn the tide of this war. And I can settle an old score.
Specific objectives[]
Clamp the fuel line
Engine six is leaking. Maybe there's a way to clamp the fuel line. Should be no hill for a stepper.
Dump the cargo
Fergus is losing altitude. Need to run back to the ass-end of the plane and lose some weight.
Return to the cockpit
Dump cargo, check. Should be back to Fergus now.
Enter the cockpit turret
Nazi fighters are attacking. They're using machines like I've never seen before. Better buckle up and get to it.
Open the cockpit door
Fergus wants me to open the cockpit door, in flight, and hold it open
Sprint jump to Condor 9
Fergus is crazy as a bullbat, but ain't got a better plan. Need to hurry up and jump over to Condor Nine.
Meet up with Fergus
Okay, we're on board Condor 9. Should go to the cockpit and see how Fergus is doing.
Answer the radio
I hear Fergus calling for help over the radio's plane. Should pick it up.
Swim to the airplane turret
There's a turret inside the crashed plane close to where Fergus and the others are hiding. If I swim there, I could use it to take out those mechanical beasts patrolling the shoreline.
Kill the mechanical beasts
Okay, got into the plane's turret. Now let's send these beasts back to hell.
Meet up with the team
There, done. Beasts are gone. Now to see if Fergus has a plan.
Enter the enemy trenches
Our soldiers are pinned down. The Nazis are holed up in a machine gun nest, protecting their trenches. Need to hop into the trenches, while Fergus and the team keep them busy.
Blow up the machine gun nest
Only way to take out this nest is to throw a grenade in there.
Find a way into the bunker
I need to get inside the bunker. Let's see if there's a way in around.
Disable the cannons
The Nazis are shooting down our planes. They've got big cannons placed along the face of the cliff. Fergus wants me to disable them.
Reach the castle wall
Fergus and the others are making their way to General Deathshead's compound. We're meeting up by castle wall. I'd better get going.
Reach the control room
There's a control room for the castle gate at the top of this wall. I need to climb up there, shoot all the Nazis that come in my way and get inside to open the gate for the others. Then we can make our way deeper into the compound. And find Deathshead.
Raise the gate
Okay, need to look for some kind of control mechanism. Something that could open the gate for the others.
Head deeper into the compound
Got the gate open. Fergus, that Wyatt kid and the others are inside. Need to find a some passageway leading down deeper into the compound.
Meet up with the others
Fergus, that Wyatt kid and the others made it inside the compound. I'm meeting them on the top floors.
Find the courtyard
Fergus said they're in a courtyard. Need to find it and meet them there. Then we move on to Deathshead.
Clear the courtyard
So far, so good. I've reunited to Fergus, the Wyatt kid and the others at the courtyard. No all we've got to do is kill every last trouble making Nazis in this place. So we can move on.
Meet up in the wreckage
I should head over to the crashed plane and meet up with the others.
Clear the way
The inside of the plane is all gunked up with debris. We can't advance. Gotta get this wreckage out of the way.
Jump across
It's a long jump to the other side. Need a running start.
Escape the incineration
Trapped like rats. The incinerators are about to go off. Need to stay alert and pay attention to the surroundings. We all gotta pull together if we're gonna get out of here.
Help Wyatt / Fergus
Wyatt seems to be onto some kind of escape plan. Gotta back the kid up. / Fergus has cooked some kind of plan to get out of here. Gotta back him up.
Notable loot[]
- 7 Enigma codes
- 5 Gold pieces
- 1 Letter
- 7 Concept art
- 8 Characters
Secret areas[]
- When the player places the bomb at the door to blow it open, he/she can instead go back to where the last commander was. There's a room with a stockpile of warheads stored, the player can place the bomb there to blow open a secret underground passage that will take him/her to closer position to the next commander.
- After pulling the lever to open the door, two blocks with large chains on them will lower, allowing the player to proceed. On the left one there's a small hole that will lead to the lower floor. Opening the following door will have the player end up right next to the commanders.
- Next to Deathshead's portrait there is a knight statue with an misaligned sword to the right. Fix the sword position and a hidden door will reveal itself behind the painting.
Weapons Found in Level[]
- SMG (First weapon given to B.J. and also wielded by allies)
- Assault Rifle 1946 (Held by German Soldiers)
- Handgun 1946 (Used by German Commanders)
- MG-46 (Mounted)
- Hand Grenade
Trivia[]
- If you destroy both Condor aircrafts at the beginning of air battle, won't change the casualities list that Fergus mentions before crashing into the beach. This may be an error or that both aircrafts should survive until that moment of the battle.
- This is the only chapter on which the player doesn't use the 1960's German version of the knife, instead opting to use an M1918 Trench Knife.
- In this level, Fergus makes a direct reference to Frankenstein, a Gothic horror novel which is about a scientist who tries to play God by creating a grotesque creature, which raises the question of what is ethical in science. Many of these elements are seen in this level.
- Although Fergus recommends to the unit take the german weapons if its possible, Wyatt is the only one seen using an StG 46, during the section with the scaffolding before reaching the yard. After that, he continues using his Thompson SMG.
- While in the Super Soldier's room, Fergus says that Wyatt's life isn't any more important than any other soldiers, making a direct reference to how commanders viewed their soldiers at the time; who'd often throw hundreds of soldiers into a suicide charge at an attempt of getting somewhere.
- The last part of this level is the most significant part of the game's entire story. The choice on who to save changes the game's timeline, it causes B.J to remain in a brain-dead vegetable state for 14 years and he gets flashbacks throughout the game of that day.
- This is the only chapter on which Fergus and Wyatt interact with each other.
