Dresden is the location in the Mac Family/SNES port of Wolfenstein 3D/Jaguar/3DO versions of Wolfenstein 3D.

Background[]

After William "B.J." Blazkowicz served the allies well as their top operative and one-man army. They send him in to infiltrate Nazi Germany, in an attempt to defeat the Fuhrer's SS fanatics.

His first task was to eliminate Hans Grosse, Hitler's most ruthless commando. He and his team were based in a castle outside of Dresden. He was ordered to wade through his stormtroops to reach him.[1]

After believing he had destroyed Hans and his killer commandos, his next task he was sent to Castle Erlangen.

Behind the scenes[]

This level first appeared in Wolfenstein 3D for the SNES and later in the uncensored Jaguar port of that game. This mission was roughly based on Escape from Castle Wolfenstein mission from the original DOS game, but the game has a different storyline than the original game. However the actual Escape from Castle Wolfenstein mission is included in 3rd Encounter of the Mac Family games as a separate mission, and a second attempt on Hans Grosse's life. Implying he wasn't so successful the first time. In the 3DO version the Dresden mission is part of the Original Encounter (the prologue campaign and Episode 1: Escape from Castle Wolfenstein is the start of the second campaign).
