"I think you're very handsome and I like you."
―Billie to William under the poplar tree[src]

Billie was the childhood crush of B.J. She endured a lot of prejudice from racists since she cannot use a good bathroom at a fair and a regular man who owned a store won't allow her to buy soda pop and gum. B.J. and Billie first met at the ravine while he was a kid and developed a crush on her, with Billie also liking him back.

She had a great impact on his morality, as he saved a rat from drowning due to it upsetting her. Her relationship with B.J. caused Rip to bemoan him for interacting with African-American people whom he despises due to his extreme racism. Her adulthood is unknown, especially after B.J. left Mesquite and joined the United States Army Rangers. There is a possibility that she was taken by the Nazis by Rip selling out minorities, or escaped and went into hiding.

History[]

Not much is known about Billie except her father died of unknown causes.

The New Colossus[]

"Are you out there somewhere, Billie? Inclined to this day. To endure amongst the living?"
―B.J. after reminiscing of his childhood with Billie in 1961.[src]

It is unknown what happens to Billie after the Nazis took over the United States, B.J. even wonders if she is still alive or not. He reminisces about their first meeting, and recalling her telling him she liked him under the poplar tree before entering his home.
