Behind the scenes[]
- The gold medal in the 1946 chapter is virtually identical to the Wound Badge of 20 July 1944, a trinket given by Hitler to survivors of the (unfortunately) failed coup attempt from July. The differences are the date (22 July 1944) and a slightly different signature by Hitler.
- The gold statue plate reads “Wernher von Braun, 1912-1964, Ein herausragender wissenechafter” (lit. “A world-renowned scientist”). This is a reference to Wernher von Braun, a German-American aerospace engineer and space architect, and also, coincidentally a member of the Nazi Party and the Allgemeine-SS. In real life, he lived from 1912-1977.
