Ioseb Besarionis dze Jughashvili, also known as Joseph Vissarionovich Stalin, and just Josef Stalin, was a Russian/Soviet politician and revolutionary who rose to become the leader of the Soviet Union (or the USSR). Born to a poor ethnic Georgian family, during his youth, he became a strong supporter of the Bolshevik faction, which was led by Vladimir Lenin, who served as dictator of Russia until his death in 1922. In 1917, Stalin would seize power during the October Revolution of that year and served during the Russian Civil War before overseeing the establishment of the USSR in 1922.

Following Lenin's passing, Joseph Stalin succeeded him as dictator and formalized his own political and economic system known as Stalinism. During his rule, he became a ruthless tyrant, as he is the mastermind behind the Great Purge, in which he imprisoned and killed millions of people in order to secure total power over the Communist Party and the Soviet Union.

During World War II, he joined the Allied Powers as one of its greatest leaders (alongside Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill). During that time, he and his high command served as the leaders of the Red Army against Nazi Germany and the Axis Powers. When Soviet forces fell to bomb raids and the military might of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party, due to them using Da'at Yichud technology, Stalin disappeared from the public eye and has been missing ever since, with no one, not even the Nazis, knowing of his whereabouts and fate.

In-game mentioning[]

In Wolfenstein: The New Order, Joseph Stalin is mentioned in two newspaper clippings. The first claimed that ever since the destruction of Moscow and the Nazi victory at Stalingrad, there hasn't been a word on the whereabouts of Stalin or his high command.

The second clipping describes Stalin as a 'murderous tyrant', who has yet to be found. According to circulating rumors, he was betrayed and assassinated by his own men.
