Operation Rheingold was a secret Nazi operation. A British Soldier had discovered that the plans for Operation Rheingold were being kept at Castle Wolfenstein, the same site where he and another Allied Soldier were being held prisoner. He lost his life attempting to escape and find the plans, but he left a note in the cell for his cellmate to find that helped him complete his task for him and escape Castle Wolfenstein with the plans.

In real life, Operation Rheingold was an actual Nazi operation to create six new divisions within the German army, comprising of some 500,000 troops, and transfer them over to their Eastern front in order to partially offset both the rising losses from both the Soviets and the Barbossa campaign. The project was undertaken in as a joint effort in conjunction with 'Operation Walküre'.[1]
