World War II or Second World War was a global conflict that was fought between the Axis powers (led by Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy, and Imperial Japan) against the Allied powers (led by the United Kingdom, USSR and the United States of America). In our history, the war ended with an Allied victory. The war was officially declared in 1939 and ended in 1945. However, the fighting began as early as the mid-1930's with the Italian invasion of Ethiopia and Albania, the Spanish Civil War, the Japanese invasion of China and their attacks on the Soviet Union.
Classic Timeline/RPG Timeline[]
In the original timeline including Wolfenstein 3D, and Spear of Destiny and any mission packs the war ends in 1945 and mirrors the historical war. The only exception is that Blazkowicz kills Adolf Hitler rather than Hitler committing suicide and ending the war in Europe as a result.
From there the future leads his grandson Billy Blaze becoming the hero of the Commander Keen series, and his distant ancestor Stan Blazkowicz/Doom Marine becoming the hero of Doom series.
This timeline or timelines is less serious than the war as portrayed in The New Order.
MachineGames Timeline[]
1944[]
The MachineGames timeline mostly correlates with our timeline until the year 1944, when the Allies Normandy landings failed drastically, resulting in 156,000 Allied soldiers lost compared to the Germans' 89. This would result in a erosion of trust between the American and British governments and see the beginning of the end for the Allies, while the Germans begin constructing the Normandy Defense Museum, which was built by captured Allied laborers and will be opened on March 15, 1946.
On July 22, 1944, there was an attempt on Hitler's life committed by a cabal of high-ranking members of the Wehrmacht. Because of this, Hitler cracks down heavily on the Wehrmacht, effectively replacing them with the SS.
This is also around the time the Nazis discover a Da'at Yichud knowledge repository, killing the safekeeper and looting the contents within, which allowed the Nazis to rapidly develop and manufacture highly advanced technologies.
1945[]
On March 9, 1945, the Germans win the Battle of Stalingrad and proceed to counterattack and lay siege to Moscow. A little more than a week later on March 16, the Soviets withdrawal from the burning ruins of Moscow following a week-long bombardment. The status of Joseph Stalin and his high command is also unknown at this time.
The Royal Air Force suffered a major defeat during the Battle of Liverpool on June 24, 1945, losing more than 2/3 of their fighters. German paratroopers also begin preforming operations in Great Britain proper.
1946[]
The Germans begin the preparations to invade mainland Great Britain proper in a plan codenamed Case Algenblute. The plan involved invading Great Britain via landings in Scotland. The Allies also begin to address the Germans advancements in technology and, according to British Commander Wilkinson, hoped to use superior strategic know how to make up for this.
On March 11, 1946, after a month-long campaign, Sweden surrenders to Germany and King Gustav V of Sweden signs a peace treaty with Adolf Hitler. Finland is also annexed around this time albeit more peacefully due to the two countries close co-operation.
Between March 16 and 17, the Office of Secret Actions, a joint organization of British and American intelligence agents, begin an operation to obtain a top-secret folder which contains the information on General Deathshead and is held by Helga von Schabbs. OSA agents Richard Wesley and William Blazkowicz infiltrate von Schabb's headquarters at Castle Wolfenstein, however their infiltration fails and Wesley is killed as well as von Schabb's second in command Rudi Jäger. Blazkowicz, using Kreisau Circle contacts, arrives at the village of Wulfburg, which is the site of von Schabb's archaeological expedition, and meets up with OSA agent Pippa Shepherd. After the expedition goes arry and hordes of shamblers begin to overrun the town who also kill agent Shepherd. Blazkowicz later arrives at the expedition site and eliminates the monstrosity causing the shamblers as well as killing von Schabbs and obtaining the folder.
On July 16, a massive joint attack by the Royal Air Force and United States Army Air Force based from RAF Kinloss is launched on Deathshead's Compound in the Baltic Sea. The goal of this attack was to kill Deatshead and halt the Nazi war machine to prevent a catastrophic defeat of the Allies. A fleet of Condors escorted by P-51 Mustangs begin the assault and are met with heavy casualties from flak cannons and interceptions from Nazi fighters. A handful of Allied soldiers led by Fergus Reid and William Blazkowicz successfully land at the beachhead and successfully enter inside the compound proper before being confronted and defeated by Deathshead himself. This results in the assault failing and effectively sealing the Allies fate of defeat.
On August 20, the United States Pacific fleet suffered a massive defeat from joint German-Japanese forces led by Field Marshall Franz-Gustav Meyers during the Battle of Leyte Gulf, with the US losing more than half their ships.
December 12, 1946 marks the date the Soviet Union surrendered to Germany after losing their last stand at the Battle of Izhevsk and a brutal bombing campaign of the Ural mountains. This was just after a failed month long campaign to retake Moscow, which resulted in hundreds of civilian casualties and complete civilian distrust in the Soviet government. Joseph Stalin's status is still unknown, though it is rumored he was killed by his own men.
1947[]
On January 3, 1947, the Nazis send hundreds of ships across the Atlantic and begin an amphibious invasion of Canada, landing at Cape North and marking the first time German soldiers touch North American soil. This was just after earlier in the week when a German U-Boat was sunk in the Cabot Strait by Canadian forces.
On April 4, 1947, the Russian resistance was defeated on the Western Volga by German forces led by Field Marshall Freidrich Ritter. This also marked the first official battlefield deployment of the Panzerhund.
Seeing the rapidly advancing Germany, the Da'at Yichud gives the American government access to one of its safe-keeps in Roswell, New Mexico, giving the government means to conduct experiments on plasma weaponry, mind control, and anti-gravity engines. One of these experiments ended up crashing in the New Mexico desert in 1947 on Murphy's Ranch, resulting in a US government cover-up and the theft of the God Key by Norman Caldwell.
1948[]
While the Allies front in Europe was steadily getting worse and worse, an alliance of Chiang Kai-shek's Republic of China and Chairman Mao Zedong's People's Liberation Army had successfully pushed the Japanese forces to Hubei province. As the Nazis approach China, Chairman Mao swear defiance. 4 months later, the Chinese had managed to push out all Japanese forces from China proper, only to then be invaded by Germany. After the destruction of the last PLA stronghold by a German special assault team, the Republic of China surrendered. China and Japan were allowed to remain independent albeit as vassal states loyal to Germany. On July 10, 1948, the Germans declare victory in Eurasia.
The United Kingdom surrenders to Germany on June 21, 1948 after a costly campaign commanded by Field Marshal Gerolf Feigenbaum. The British government orders all soldiers to stand down as the Commonwealth falls under German rule.
At this point in time, morale is low within the United States, being the last major power standing against the Nazis and losing rapidly. US citizens in newspapers like the Star-Spangled Daily call for a full withdrawal of soldiers from Europe and even go as far as wanting a peace treaty with Germany. The US Manhattan Project was also severely hindered by the murders of 9 scientists involved in the project in Albuquerque by German agents covered up by local law enforcement as a deranged ex-military student.
As a last attempt to salvage the war effort, the United States mounted a missile defense system along the East Coast named Hellstorm in an attempt to stop German V-3 missiles from hitting targets. Hellstorm batteries would launch walls of tungsten carbide bullets at incoming missiles with the hopes of shredding them. According to General Leonard Troyden of the Eastern Missile Defense Command, this would allow hopefully allow for America to establish a turning point in the war and resume operations in Europe. However, contrary to General Troyden's statement, MIT professor Gordon Osoff calculated that Hellstorm would only stand a 17% chance to stop a V-3 rocket before impact.
On December 21, 1948, the Nazis would drop an atomic bomb named Der Bestrafer on New York City, killing anywhere from 200,000 to 3,000,000 people. This would cripple what was left of America's morale and leave the area uninhabitable for many years to come. The next day, German soldiers in "Liberator Squads" would descend all over the United States, including Washington, D.C. where the US president urged cooperation and a peaceful transition.
On Christmas Eve of 1948 (December 24), the President of the United States declares the surrender of America to Germany, ending the war. Hitler would make a speech at the Capitol building, announcing a total German victory.
